Sharks International Water Polo Academy is an incorporated organization registered in New South Wales, Australia. The Academy was established by the Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club Incorporated to solve sport’s biggest barriers to sustainable development and growth:
– The lack of suitable facilities;
– Access to those facilities and;
– Program management of facility operations.
It was from this point that the vision for ‘Sharks Aquatic’ was born.
As it stands, grassroots participation is constrained and the delivery of quality programs is insufficient. Additional benefits such as spectator accommodation is minimal and without the appropriate investment in infrastructure to support our growing community, the associated health, social and economic benefits will be left unrealised. Financial investment in community infrastructure is proven to produce valuable outcomes that far outweigh financial outlay, such outcomes include; employment, health and productivity, social inclusion, drowning reductions as well as decreased levels of crime and anti-social behaviour.
The ‘Sharks Aquatic’ Centre has been designed for community groups to grow by having a dedicated facility to conduct regular programming, generate new members, service spectators and capture regular revenue streams. Sharks Aquatic will draw these community groups and the community as a whole together by providing a dedicated facility to hold events, meetings and celebrations that no other facility in the region can currently service.
The Foundation Members of the Sharks International Water Polo Academy are the Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club Incorporated and Cronulla High School. The Foundation Stone for this alliance was the securing of a Deed of Agreement between the Cronulla Sutherland Water Polo Club and the NSW Department of Education.
Governance is through a Board of Directors with an Executive Leadership Team holding functional responsibilities for management, program operations and service delivery outcomes.
